The Hair Colour Experts at Images HD Salon in Woking, Surrey Explain What a Toner is & Why You Should Use One

Watch Your Tone, Why Do I need a toner, Images HD Salon in Woking, Surrey

Have you ever seen someone walking around with brassy yellow or orange hair? We don’t mean neon yellow, but a messy looking “home dye” blonde. The issue is that they likely didn’t use a toner after bleaching their hair.

Toner is a fantastic little product that neutralises orange and brassy yellow tones on bleached hair, leaving you with healthy looking, shiny and more natural looking hair colour.

At Images HD Salon in Woking, Surrey we use the very highest quality toners to ensure you always have a beautiful hair colour when you leave our salon.

What You Should Know About Toners

Toners work to alter the undertone of a hair colour, but they do not lift the shade. Toners are meant to be applied to bleached or naturally blonde hair and will not work on darker hair. Toner can help you manipulate the shade of your blonde hair to make it look ashy, more cool or dingier. Your Images HD colour expert can even use a toner to add fashion colours including pink, blue or lilac tones.

Toners can be used all over your hair, or only in certain parts where you want to change the shade. For example, it can be used at the roots to blend hair colours, or used to tone down highlights. Be aware though – the more you wash your hair, the more frequently you’ll have to tone it.

What Kind of Toner Should I Use On My Hair?

Once you have had your hair lightened at our Woking hair salon, your colour expert will use an in-salon toner. Our toners are of the highest quality and are designed to minimise damage to coloured hair. Your Images HD stylist will work with you using products which strengthen and repair damaged hair during the colouring process.

Using purple or silver shampoo is a popular “at home” toning service, it is more gentle than ammonia based toners. The great thing about using these coloured shampoos is that you can wash your hair with it 2-3 times per week to preserve the tone of your blonde hair.

How Do I Maintain My Toner?

Depending on your hair washing routine, you may have to visit Images HD Salon for a toner from 2-8 weeks after your hair colour service. You should not wash your hair directly after toning because the hair colour will start to slip out.

The less frequently you wash your hair, the longer your hair colour will stay looking fresh and radiant. We would advise against washing your hair every day as it strips out your natural oils and dries out your hair, which is not advisable when you have been bleaching and toning your tresses!

What Results Can You Get With a Toner?

You can get a wide range of colours using a toner from fashion colours, browns, reds, warm honey to light ash blonde, and even silver hair colours.
